Montecasino - Drive, putt and chip your way to the most prestigious title in SA amateur golf

Over 1 000 amateur golfers will be teeing off at some of the finest clubs and courses around the country next month as they go head-to-head and battle it out on the green for the most prestigious and sought-after amateur golfing prize in the world.

Each year, the South African leg of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup amateur golf tournament, which has raised well over four and a half million dollars for local and international beneficiaries since its inception in 2000, gives amateur golfers around the country the chance to tee off and do their part for the underprivileged in their communities, while at the same time competing for a shot at winning the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on three of the world’s most prestigious courses – the Berkshire Golf Club, Moor Park Golf Club, and the Royal Household Golf Club (the Queen’s private golf course) on the grounds of Windsor Castle in England.

“By virtue of our sponsorship of the South African leg of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup, Tsogo Sun Gaming and our seven entertainment properties, each year donate in excess of R700 000 to underprivileged communities and welfare organisations in seven areas across the country,” says Kathy Scheepmaker, Tsogo Sun Gaming Project Manager and organise of the tournament.  “This year we’d like to increase that figure and make more of a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves, continuing our corporate social investment strategy of investing in communities on our ‘Doorstep’.  It’s also a truly fabulous day of golf at some of the finest clubs around the country, and we’ve had winners travel to the United Kingdom from almost all our properties – KZN, East London, Gauteng... This year, it could be you!”

The 2011 Duke of Edinburgh Cup will take place at seven regional golf days over the next three months. Participation in these regional legs of the tournament allows amateur golfers the chance of winning one of only seven places in the final Powerplay shoot-out on 7 June at Pecanwood Golf & Country Estate. Four ball sales are now open for the following regional golf days:
• Emnotweni Casino (White River Golf Course, White River) – Friday, 25 March 2011
