BLACKROCK CASINO STAGES QUALIFYING ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL DUKE OF EDINBURGH GOLF TOURNAMENT
Blackrock Casino will once again give local amateur golfers a stab at competing on an international stage in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Cup. The casino is hosting the preliminary round which offers participants the chance to secure their spot at the final Powerplay round and a rare opportunity to play in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Individual World Final and World Pairs Trophy in the United Kingdom later in the year.
The Duke of Edinburgh tournament was established under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip. It attracts participation from over 10 countries around the world and has raised $4 million for selected worldwide beneficiaries and numerous local charities.
The Duke of Edinburgh Golf Tournament in South Africa is staged annually by Tsogo Sun Gaming. Qualifying golf days are presented across the country at Emnotweni Casino, The Ridge Casino, Hemingways Casino, Suncoast Casino, Blackrock Casino, Caledon Casino and Montecasino.
The final Powerplay shoot out, where the winners of the individual golf days will compete against each other, will be hosted at the Pecanwood Golf and Country Club, Montecasino on 7 June 2011.
The overall winner on this day will then have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Individual World Final on two of the finest golf courses in the United Kingdom September 2011. Additionally, the winner will also participate in a special Invitation Tournament at the Royal Household Golf Club at Windsor Castle Great Park, better known as home to the Queen of England.
Blackrock Casino’s qualifying golf day will be held at Newcastle Golf Club on Wednesday, 13 April 2011. Local golfers keen to participate in this event and possibly earn their ticket to play golf on an international stage should book their places now. The tournament will be followed by a prize giving ceremony and dinner, hosted by the casino. Proceeds raised through the event will be donated to a local charity.
Blackrock Casino’s preliminary round will comprise two formats:
• Individual Stableford, which will serve as the main competition, determining the winner that will compete against participants from across the country in the Powerplay Shoot Out at Pecanwood Golf Estate, for a place in the Duke of Edinburgh Championship in the UK.
• Four-ball alliance with over R40 000 of top brand golf prizes
“The Duke of Edinburgh Cup is a highly-anticipated golfing tournament which gives amateur golfers an opportunity to play in a serious, international competition as well as the rare chance to travel abroad to compete on an international level.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the preliminary round again this year. Aside from giving our local golfers a chance to pit their skills against some of the area’s best, this event is also loads of fun. At the same time, it enables us to raise funds for a needy charity and give back to our community,” says John McGregor, General Manager of Blackrock Casino & entertainment complex.
Entry fee is R2000 for a four-ball and includes a hamper valued at R1 500, refreshments on arrival, halfway house voucher, prize-giving dinner, green fees and VPAR live scoring system. Hole sponsorship is also available for R500 per hole.
