FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER A WOMAN WALKS AWAY WITH FIRST PRIZE AT EMNOTWENI DUKE OF EDINBURGH GOLF DAY
No one was more surprised than the winner, Nelspruit resident Sanet Geere when she was announced the winner of the Emnotweni Casino Duke of Edinburgh Golf Day on Friday, 25 March 2011.

As in previous years, the Emnotweni Casino Duke of Edinburgh Golf Day was a resounding success with over 120 worthy players participating in this year’s event. The Duke of Edinburgh is one of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments in the country and is annually presented by Tsogo Sun Gaming.
The event offers participants the opportunity to compete at any of the seven qualifying golf days presented across the country by Emnotweni Casino, The Ridge Casino, Hemingways Casino, Suncoast Casino, Blackrock Casino, Caledon Casino and Montecasino.
Vincent Kaufman and Anton van Dyk placed second and third respectively.
The regional winners of these individual tournaments will play in a final Powerplay Shoot Out at the Pecanwood Golf and Country Club on 7 June when they will compete for the grand prize – the opportunity to play in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Individual World Final on two of the finest golf courses in the United Kingdom in September this year. “We hope everyone who played on Friday, enjoyed the event as much as we did. We believe it was once again a huge success and considering how soon places were reserved this year, it is obvious that the event is becoming more popular every time,” says Ig Olivier, General Manager at Emnotweni Casino and Entertainment Complex.
Even some of South Africa’s biggest celebrities participated including Pieter Koen and Bok van Blerk who put their golfing skills to the test on the beautiful White River Country Club golf course, situated just outside Nelspruit. The golfing guru Dan Nicholl not only participated as a golfer, but MC’d the prizegiveing dinner which was hosted at Emnotweni Arena for all particapants and their partners.
“We would like to wish the Emnotweni winner, Sanet Geere the best of luck at the final Powerplay shootout in June and will hold thumbs that he wins the grand prize to represent South Africa in the United Kingdom later in the year ,” comments Olivier.
The tournament was established under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip and today over 10 countries around the world participate in the event. Millions of dollars have already been raised for various beneficiaries around the world. In South Africa alone over R3m has been donated towards a variety of social responsibility initiatives in each community where the qualifying golf days are hosted.
This year the funds raised at the Nelspruit Golf Day, will be donated to the Nelspruit Community Forum which is a Non Profit Organisation registered with the department of Welfare and a Public Benefit Organization.
